Sophie Biddell

Sophie Biddell is a postgraduate and Dixon Scholar at Christ Church, Oxford, where she graduated with first class honours in music as an academic scholar in 2001 and was awarded the Clifford Smith Prize. She was educated at the Maynard School, Exeter and played clarinet with both the National Children's Orchestra and the National Youth Wind Orchestra, making her first solo radio broadcast at the age of 15 and reaching the Wales and West of England finals of the BBC Young Musician of the Year in 1997. Currently studying with David Campbell and Emma Johnson, Sophie has played as principal clarinet with all of Oxford's university orchestras; in 2000 she appeared as a soloist with the Christ Church Festival Orchestra in Finzi's Clarinet Concerto and was awarded the Faculty of Music's Joan Conway Performance Scholarship. Sophie is also conductor of Christ Church College Choir.
