Christopher Orton
Christopher Orton is widely recognised as one of the most exciting recorder
players of the new generation. He graduated from Birmingham Conservatoire with
the highest recital marks in 2004, and has since been awarded numerous prizes,
scholarships and awards, including the first ever John Hosier Trust
Scholarship for postgraduate study, a silver medal from the Worshipful
Company of Musicians, and a Prix De Jury and Prize for Best
Performance of a Dutch work at the 9th International Contemporary
Music Competition, Poland, 2005. His teachers included Ross Winters, Annabel
Knight, Dan Laurin, Anneke Boeke and Pamela Thorby. He gave the first ever solo
recorder recital in Symphony Hall, Birmingham, and was interviewed and performed
live on BBC Radio 3 In Tune programme, and presented the recorder on BBC
1 Blue Peter. Christopher works particularly in the field of contemporary
music, and commissions works from young up and coming composers from around the
world.. Most recently, Christopher took 2nd prize with his duo
partner Magdalena Nasidlak (piano, Poland) in the 10th
International Contemporary Music Competition in Krakow, September
2006.
